"content_text": "It’s been a while since I last posted here. I originally planned to do monthly favourites again this year, but I completely missed. I also missed a lot of releases this quarter since I really haven’t been finding enough time lately to properly go through everything.Still, Q1 2026 had some really strong albums that stayed in rotation for weeks. As usual, most of my listening was doom, death-doom, atmospheric black metal and filthy death metal. Here are my Top 15 favourites from the quarter.1. Ellende - Zerfall Personal rating: 9.5/10 Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal / Depressive Release date: January 2026This album completely consumed me for weeks. Cold atmospheric black metal with massive emotional weight and deeply melancholic melodies everywhere. The riffs have that perfect depressive feeling that just drags me deeper into the album every single time. Everything sounds grey, frozen and emotionally collapsing in the best possible way.I kept coming back to this almost every night. There is something strangely comforting about how dark and hopeless this album feels. Half the album sounded like slowly sinking into an endless winter void while staring at a dead sky. Easily my favourite release of the whole quarter and honestly one of my favourite Ellende releases in general.2. Marianas Rest - The Bereaved Personal rating: 9.5/10 Genre: Melodic Death-Doom Release date: January 2026Marianas Rest somehow always manage to make sadness sound massive. This album is filled with emotional melodic riffs, crushing doom sections and that heavy melancholic atmosphere they do so well. The melodies feel beautiful without losing any heaviness behind them.I spent a lot of late nights listening to this album with headphones on doing absolutely nothing productive. Some of these melodies genuinely stayed in my head for days. The whole record feels like slowly drowning in grief while giant doom riffs keep crashing over everything. Easily one of the strongest death-doom releases of the quarter for me.3. Cryptworm - Infectious Pathological Waste Personal rating: 9.5/10 Genre: Death Metal / Grind Release date: March 2026Absolutely disgusting album. Rotten riffs, pathological atmosphere, nasty vocals and production that sounds like it was recorded inside a leaking sewer tunnel. Everything about this release feels filthy and diseased in the best possible way. Even the artwork looks like it smells horrible.I kept replaying this because of how unapologetically rotten it sounds. No clean moments. No breathing space. Just nonstop sickness and caveman brutality from beginning to end. Half the riffs feel covered in mold and corpse fluid. Beautiful stuff.4. Sylosis - The New Flesh Personal rating: 9.5/10 Genre: Thrash / Melodic Death Release date: Q1 2026Sylosis once again writing ridiculously sharp riffs without sounding repetitive. The guitar work here is absurd at times. Aggressive thrash energy mixed with melodic death metal sections that keep the album constantly moving forward. Every track feels energetic and alive.I was not even listening to much thrash recently but this album kept pulling me back. Very easy album to throw on during work or long walks because the energy never really drops. Some of the riffs here are genuinely addictive. Probably one of the most replayable albums from the whole list.5. Neurosis - An Undying Love for a Burning World Personal rating: 9/10 Genre: Post-Metal / Sludge Release date: March 2026Massive, hypnotic and emotionally exhausting. Neurosis still knows how to make music feel enormous. The atmosphere slowly builds layer by layer until the whole thing starts feeling overwhelming. Some riffs here barely even feel like riffs anymore. More like giant collapsing walls of sound. This is not the kind of album I casually threw on in the background. It demanded full attention. I found myself just sitting there listening to the atmosphere swallow everything whole. The emotional weight throughout the album feels crushing without ever becoming melodramatic. Heavy in every possible way.6. Fossilization - Advent of Wounds Personal rating: 9/10 Genre: Death-Doom / Sludge Release date: February 2026This album sounds genuinely rotten. Suffocating blackened death-doom with cavernous atmosphere and riffs buried under layers of dirt and decay. There is almost no light anywhere on the album. Just darkness, filth and slow punishment. Some sections genuinely felt claustrophobic through headphones. Exactly the kind of nasty underground death-doom I keep looking for.7. Kreator - Krushers of the World Personal rating: 8.5/10 Genre: Thrash Metal Release date: January 2026Kreator still writing riffs like they are angry teenagers somehow. Pure high energy thrash with sharp aggressive riffing and huge choruses everywhere. Sometimes you just need fast riffs and loud drums without overthinking anything. German thrash legends still sounding ridiculously alive.8. New Mexican Doom Cult - Ziggurat Personal rating: 8.5/10 Genre: Stoner Rock / Metal Release date: January 2026Warm fuzzy stoner doom with thick psychedelic atmosphere and massive grooves all over the album. Everything feels dusty, hypnotic and slightly cosmic. Some riffs here just slowly melt into your brain after a while.I kept returning to this whenever I wanted something heavy without feeling emotionally destroyed afterwards. Great album to completely space out to during late evenings. The psychedelic doom atmosphere throughout the album feels natural and effortless instead of forced.9. Urne - Setting Fire to the Sky Personal rating: 8/10 Genre: Sludge / Doom Release date: January 2026Heavy sludgy riffs with a lot of aggression and urgency behind them. The album constantly feels restless and angry without becoming repetitive. Some of the transitions between sludge heaviness and faster sections worked really well for me.I liked how fiery this whole album felt. Even the slower sections still carried tension underneath. There is a rough aggressive energy throughout the record that kept me engaged the whole time. Solid release with some genuinely hard-hitting riffs.10. Converge - Love Is Not Enough Personal rating: 7.5/10 Genre: Hardcore / Metalcore Release date: February 2026Chaotic and emotionally unhinged exactly the way I wanted from Converge. The intensity here is ridiculous. Every track feels seconds away from completely falling apart while somehow still holding itself together. Messy in the best possible way.11. Mayhem - Lithurgy of Dead Personal rating: 7.5/10 Genre: Black Metal Release date: February 2026I was excited seeing a release from the pioneers of black metal. Cold Norwegian black metal atmosphere all over this thing. Sharp riffs, ugly atmosphere and that classic unsettling Mayhem feeling throughout the album. Some moments genuinely reminded me why atmosphere matters so much in black metal. I especially liked the colder slower sections where everything started feeling distant and evil. Dark ugly music for nights when silence feels too peaceful.12. Gutvoid - Liminal Shrines Personal rating: 7.5/10 Genre: Death-Doom Release date: March 2026Crushing death-doom with gigantic oppressive atmosphere and absurdly heavy riffs. The album feels massive and suffocating at the same time. There is this strange horror feeling hanging over the entire record. This one grew on me a lot after multiple listens. The slower sections especially started hitting harder once I settled into the album’s pacing. Some parts genuinely felt like wandering through abandoned underground cathedrals while everything slowly collapses around you.13. Worm - Necropalace Personal rating: 7.5/10 Genre: Blackened Doom / Death-Doom Release date: February 2026Cold cavernous doom with thick horror atmosphere and necrotic blackened textures everywhere. Worm always manages to make their albums feel ancient and cursed somehow. This release absolutely had that same feeling. The slower doom sections feel huge while the blackened atmosphere wraps everything in this evil fog. Very immersive album once it fully settles in.14. Exhumed - Red Asphalt Personal rating: 7/10 Genre: Death Metal / Gore Release date: February 2026Pure gory death metal chaos. Fast riffs, disgusting energy and enough violence to make the whole thing feel like a grindhouse horror soundtrack. Legendary gore-death metal pioneers Exhumed still knows exactly how to make this style stupidly fun.I loved how shamelessly over-the-top this album sounded. No emotional depth. No atmosphere worship. Just gore, speed and nonstop violent riffing. Sometimes that is exactly what I want from death metal.15. MØL - Dreamcrush Personal rating: 7/10 Genre: Blackgaze Release date: Q1 2026Heavy emotional album with dark atmosphere and slow crushing pacing. The album feels dreamy and hopeless at the same time. Some of the atmospheric sections here sounded genuinely beautiful underneath all the heaviness. The atmosphere slowly pulls everything inward and keeps sinking deeper as the album progresses. Really immersive blackgaze release with a lot of emotional weight hidden underneath.Honorable Mentions Blackwater Holylight - Not Here Not Gone: Dreamy doomgaze atmosphere with beautiful melancholic layering throughout. Kal-El - Astral Voyager Vol. 2: Warm cosmic stoner doom with massive grooves and psychedelic space atmosphere. Very easy album to disappear into. Hela - A Reign to Conquer: Epic doom with strong melodies and some really satisfying heavy moments. Protusion - The Last Suppuration: Short disgusting burst of rotten death metal filth. Pure sewer music. Long live METALHEADS - horns up 🤘",

"content_text": "Didn’t get much time in February and March to listen to new albums, but managed to check out a few. Out of those, these ones really stayed in my head.1. Outer Head - ErevosGenre: Doom MetalFound this one through Doom Charts, had zero clue about the band before that. But, listening to this album felt like getting hit by a truck in slow motion - heavy, impactful, and suffocating as fuck. The whole album is so damn cosmic - sludgy riffs and thick atmosphere throughout. There’s a weird kind of rawness to it, but properly polished with gloomy vocals. Didnt expect to enjoy this album so much, but it just keep hitting me harder track after track.2. Cradle of Filth - The Screaming Of The ValkyriesGenre: Symphonic Black MetalThis one gave me pure old-school Cradle vibes, straight from the grave. The album doesn’t do anything new or unpredictable - I kinda knew what was coming - but it still hit hard where it needed to.Dani Filth’s voice? Still sounds evil as ever. Man’s vocals pierced the whole album straight into my hear. It’s not groundbreaking, but for a Cradle fan , this was full of bangers.3. Cult of Fire - The One, Who is Made of SmokeGenre: Atmospheric Black MetalFirst time listening to this band. Got to know that they’ve been in the game since 2011. Looking at the album cover - I legit thought they were Indian — full of Hindi/Sanskrit text, and all the tracks sounded HINDU as fuck. But turns out they’re Czech, which blew my mind even more. They mixed that tantric energy with atmospheric black metal in a way I’ve never heard before. It was intense, and fun to listen. Few tracks like Dhoom and Joy are still stuck in my head. Didn’t expect to enjoy it this much.4. Arch Enemy - Blood DynastyGenre: Death MetalArch Enemy’s my guilty pleasure band. To be honest, I only listen to them because of Alissa - she’s a perfect vocalist, and yeah, she’s so daamn hot.But Blood Dynasty still delivered some solid metal. The riffs are sharp, the aggression is on point, and Alissa’s growls? Unmatched. I may be biased, but this album’s a banger for me5. Cryptosis - Celestial DeathGenre: Progressive Thrash MetalI still listen to their 2021 release Bionic Swarm very often. That’s the album I think of whenever I hear progressive thrash. After 3+ years, these Dutch boys came back with another experimental banger.Next level production quality. This has to be one of the best produced albums I’ve heard in recent times. The sound is crystal clear and every instrument hits with full force. The album is packed with complex melodies and sharp riffs throughout.6. Allegaeon - The Ossuary LensGenre: Melodic Technical Death MetalThese guys are pretty famous in the scene, but this is just the second album I’ve heard of theirs. Their 2022 release Damnum was one of my favorites back then during COVID.It’s like listening to the same album but not too proggy, just the right balance of melody and techy solos. Amazing vocals as their last album and they focused more on solid tech riffs this time.7. Dawn of Ouroboros - BioluminescenceGenre: Post Black + Progressive Death + Ambient Jazz (really???)Female fronted post black metal…saw a lot of hype around this one on Twitter, so I gave it a try - and damn, it turned out to be a banger with no fillers at all. They blended progressive death and post-black metal so smoothly. But that’s not it - they managed to threw in jazz and ambient touches here and there. And the best part? It didn’t feel forced at all…nothing like those silly ass bands that randomly mix genres just for the sake of it. This one felt really natural with ofcourse great lead vocals.8. Euphrosyne - MorusGenre: Post BlackgazeAhhh! Another female fronted post-black metal. I really wonder - What happened to all my GATE KEEPING these days!Came across this one through some random dude’s twitter post. I didnt really see anyone else talk about it. Maybe because of blackgaze being considered as a bastard child of black metal and shoegaze. But damn, They did really great balancing aggressiveness and melody in a perfect way. The guitar arrangements are beautiful and the vocals? She absolutely nailed it, switching between haunting cleans and brutal screams.9. This Gift Is A Curse - HeirGenre: Blackened Slude MetalEasily one of the darkest punishing albums I’ve heard in a while. A very long and intense album with over an hour of runtime. The classy sludge and hardcore sounds mixed perfectly with black metal elements. It took me a couple of listens to fully get into it - but once it clicked, it stayed.Honorable MentionsFange - PurulencesGenre: Industrial Sludge MetalNite - Cult of the Serpent SunGenre: Blackened Thrash MetalImperial Triumphant - GoldstarGenre: Avant-garde black metalLong live METALHEADS - horns up and never down! 🤘",

It’s not groundbreaking, but for a Cradle fan , this was full of bangers.</p><p><img src=\"https://f4.bcbits.com/img/0038449225_10.jpg\" alt=\"Cradle of Filth\" /></p><hr /><h3 id=\"3-cult-of-fire---the-one-who-is-made-of-smoke\">3. Got to know that they’ve been in the game since 2011. Looking at the album cover - I legit thought they were Indian — full of Hindi/Sanskrit text, and all the tracks sounded HINDU as fuck. But turns out they’re Czech, which blew my mind even more.</p><p>They mixed that tantric energy with atmospheric black metal in a way I’ve never heard before. It was intense, and fun to listen. Few tracks like Dhoom and Joy are still stuck in my head. Didn’t expect to enjoy it this much.</p><p><img src=\"https://metalworldunited.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/descarga-8.png\" alt=\"Cult of Fire\" /></p><hr /><h3 id=\"4-arch-enemy---blood-dynasty\">4. To be honest, I only listen to them because of Alissa - she’s a perfect vocalist, and yeah, she’s so daamn hot.</p><p>But Blood Dynasty still delivered some solid metal. The riffs are sharp, the aggression is on point, and Alissa’s growls? Unmatched. I may be biased, but this album’s a banger for me</p><p><img src=\"https://i0.wp.com/www.sonicperspectives.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Arch-Enemy-Featured.jpg\" alt=\"Arch Enemy\" /></p><hr /><h3 id=\"5-cryptosis---celestial-death\">5. That’s the album I think of whenever I hear progressive thrash. After 3+ years, these Dutch boys came back with another experimental banger.</p><p>Next level production quality. This has to be one of the best produced albums I’ve heard in recent times. The sound is crystal clear and every instrument hits with full force. The album is packed with complex melodies and sharp riffs throughout.</p><p><img src=\"https://dragon-productions.eu/wp-content/uploads/Cryptosis-02-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Cryptosis\" /></p><hr /><h3 id=\"6-allegaeon---the-ossuary-lens\">6. Their 2022 release Damnum was one of my favorites back then during COVID.</p><p>It’s like listening to the same album but not too proggy, just the right balance of melody and techy solos. Amazing vocals as their last album and they focused more on solid tech riffs this time.</p><p><img src=\"https://f4.bcbits.com/img/0038671577_10.jpg\" alt=\"Allegaeon\" /></p><hr /><h3 id=\"7-dawn-of-ouroboros---bioluminescence\">7. But that’s not it - they managed to threw in jazz and ambient touches here and there. And the best part? It didn’t feel forced at all…nothing like those silly ass bands that randomly mix genres just for the sake of it. This one felt really natural with ofcourse great lead vocals.</p><p><img src=\"https://prostheticrecords.com/wp-content/themes/yootheme/cache/78/Dawn-of-Ouroboros-2025-scaled-783161f4.jpeg\" alt=\"Dawn of Ouroboros\" /></p><hr /><h3 id=\"8-euphrosyne---morus\">8. Another female fronted post-black metal. I really wonder - What happened to all my GATE KEEPING these days!</p><p>Came across this one through some random dude’s twitter post. I didnt really see anyone else talk about it. Maybe because of blackgaze being considered as a bastard child of black metal and shoegaze.</p><p>But damn, They did really great balancing aggressiveness and melody in a perfect way. The guitar arrangements are beautiful and the vocals? Clouds - DesprinsGenre: Atmospheric Doom Metal, Melodic Death-Doom MetalFlutes with sorrowful growls? That’s Clouds - pure, heartbreaking doom.We all have that one band we turn to when we’re down - when the everything feels heavy, but music gives us shelter. For me, Clouds is that band. Their atmosphere doesn’t just hit hard; it overwhelms and comforts at the same time. A very few bands capture sadness this beautifully. And Desprins? No drop in quality. From start to finish, it’s drenched in raw emotion, sorrow, and that signature haunting flutes. Another masterpiece for sure.2. Rudra - AntithesisGenre: Vedic Death/Thrash/Black MetalI’m a massive fan of this Singaporean Vedic metal beast. These guys have been crushing it for decades, blending death, black, and thrash with Sanskrit mantras that hit like ancient war chants. Even though I’m an atheist, being a Hindu myself, their music still gives me mad goosebumps every time. Now, this new album Antithesis - honestly, there’s nothing new. Same style and same mix. But does that even matter? Fuck no! The way those mantras and riffs collide is pure destruction. It just works for me always.3. Veil of Conspiracy - Shape of GriefGenre: Funeral Doom MetalAs a huge Swallow the Sun fan, this album hit me instantly. I’ve checked out their previous works earlier, but this album is on next level. Every track is drenched in loneliness, despair, and soul-crushing solitude. It’s dark, beautiful, and emotional, while blending death-doom heaviness with haunting progressive elements. Its not for everyone, But for someone craving for that melancholic and suffocating doom, this album is a masterpiece!4. Pentagram - Lightning in a BottleGenre: Doom Metal, Heavy MetalWhich doom metal fan doesn’t love Pentagram? These guys are legends! And here we are—10th album, first in a decade.Honestly, Thought maybe the magic would fade. But no - this is pure classic, vintage doom, straight from the depths of 80s.The vocals are killer - of course, Bobby is a damn legend. Except for him, the whole lineup is fresh, but they delivered great. The riffs, the groove, the atmosphere - it’s all there. Overall, it’s a nostalgic, doomy, and straight-up awesome listen.5. Bandshee - The Long RoadGenre: Stoner Rock &amp; Heavy PsychI stumbled upon this one by pure chance, and damn, what a trip it was. I already listened to this over 5 times. It’s Heavy, trippy, and dripping with that stoner rock fuzz. The guitars are straight-up killer from start to finish, and the female lead vocalist is absolute magic. Her voice is very pleasant and it pulled me like an ancient spell.Overall, this is an amazing blend of proggy, folky blues with the perfect dose of heaviness and fuzz. Smooth yet crushing. Definitely a hidden gem!6. Onirophagus - Revelations From the VoidGenre: Death Doom MetalThis is some mind fucking stuff. Never checked these guys out before, but damn, I’ve been missing out! They’ve been in the game for a while, but this was my first taste - and what a beast of an album.Pure 90s death-doom worship with thunderous drums, crushing riffs, and slow, guttural devastation. But what really blew my mind are the clean vocals creeping in between the slow, monstrous growls. That contrast hits so damn hard.7. Dragonknight - LegionsGenre: Epic Power MetalNormally, I ctopped caring much about new power metal bands. Most modern power metal leans too POP-py. But these guys - They’re powerful, epic, and straight-up badass. So glad bands like this are still keeping the flame alive! The guitar solos are just mesmerizing. The more I listen, the more this album grows on me, some tracks just hit harder with every listen. But the real MVP? The keyboards. They add that extra majestic feel that makes the whole thing so damn great.Hail Power Metal!8. Weed Demon - The Doom ScrollGenre: Heavy Psych Doom Metal“Pure Fucking Sludge Doom” - that’s what they claim on their Bandcamp, and for real, they are not wrong. This is some thick, sludged-out stoner doom that hits slow, heavy, and filthy. The riffs are massive, the vibe is pure doom worship, and that album cover is an absolute killer.Only complaint? Too short. Just when you’re fully sinking into the swampy riffs, it’s over. Wish it was a bit longer, but still, a solid, crushing release.9. Ethbaal - Absolutely Terrifying InsultGenre: Filthy Sludge Metal? It’s ugly, it’s filthy, and it grinds your ears into the dirt. Another underground filth stuff I stumbled upon through Bandcamp. Sludgy, stoner doom metal at its dirtiest.Honestly, I have no clue who these guys are. And there’s not much to say, it’s just a raw, disgusting listen in the best (or worst) way possible.Honorable Mentions:The Obsidian Resurrection - As Darkness FallsGenre: Symphonic Death MetalGuttural Disgorge - First Degree MurderGenre: Slamming Brutal Death MetalNaked Whipper - Chapel DefilementGenre: Grindcore, Black MetalHail Metal, Stay Heavy!",

"content_text": "Among the few blasphemous black metal albums I sank into this year, these top 5 releases drowned my soul in darkness.1. Departure Chandelier - Satan Soldier of Fortune Personal rating: 9/10 Genre: Raw Black Metal Listen: Bandcamp / SpotifyI’m a huge fan of this Napoleanic black metal band Departure Chandelier’s debut album in 2019 - “Antichrist Rise to Power”. While it stays true to the unpolished, aggressive style of their debut, “Satan Soldier of Fortune” introduces a new level of melody within the rawness, with black metal riffs that strike both ferociously and beautifully. The production feels like it was forged in the depths of ancient catacombs, with every note cutting through the air like a dagger. Doom and despair combine seamlessly into the chaos, expanding the album’s sinister atmosphere and giving it an unsettling weight. The synths, though haunting, never overpower the guitar, instead enhancing the bleak mood and adding depth to the already chilling soundscape.2. Pestilent Hex - Sorceries of Sanguine &amp; Shadow Personal rating: 9/10 Genre: Melodic/Symphonic Black Metal Listen: Bandcamp / SpotifyThis grabbed me instantly, with its chilling intro and an album cover with head on plate oozes with dark, macabre energy. There’s something undeniably mystical about Finnish black metal, and this band brings it to life with brutal intensity and an almost ritualistic atmosphere. The music hits hard and never lets up, matching the excellence of their previous work. I’m particularly drawn to the Emperor-like arrangements, where the music feels both grand and ferocious, immersing me in a dark, epic journey. This is black metal at its peak—raw, relentless, and utterly captivating.3. Impious Throne - Suffering Personal rating: 8/10 Genre: Independent Black Metal Listen: Bandcamp / SpotifyThis has quickly cemented itself as one of favorite black metal albums of the year. The drums are absolutely cosmic in their extremity, blasting with an intensity that feels out of this world. The vocals are cold and unyielding, perfectly complementing the wrathful guitars that tear through the atmosphere with brutal precision. Every track is a masterclass in beautifully constructed aggression, delivering pure, relentless energy. This album is nothing but pure FIRE—no filler, just full-on KILLER from start to finish.4. Amiensus - Reclamation Part I and Part II Personal rating: 8/10 Genre: Progressive Black Metal Listen: BandcampOne of my favorite release of the year comes from the same band with two albums, both released in the same year. Their music is harsh and suffocating, yet strangely beautiful, laced with haunting ambient moments. While Part I delved deep into introspective themes, Part II intensifies the journey, pulling you into a whirlwind of raw emotion and relentless force. The band’s ability to combine progressive elements together with black metal’s ferocity is very impressive, crafting an album that feels both intenseful and beautiful.5. Aquilus - Bellum II Personal rating: 7/10 Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal Listen: Bandcamp / SpotifyAs a huge listener of atmospheric black metal, there’s something incredibly captivating about how it slowly and beautifully seeps into your soul with every listen. Aquilus’ Bellum II is a monumental achievement. The album is vast in both its ambition and its execution, blending guitars, blast beats, harsh vocals, and the unexpected beauty of violins. It doesn’t feel like a traditional album; it flows more like a symphony, with each movement unfolding seamlessly into the next. Bellum II is a testament to how this genre can push boundaries while maintaining its haunting, emotive essence, making it an unforgettable experience.",

Impious Throne - Suffering</h3><ul> <li>Personal rating: 8/10</li> <li>Genre: Independent Black Metal</li> <li>Listen: <a href=\"https://impiousthrone.bandcamp.com/album/suffering\">Bandcamp</a> / <a href=\"https://open.spotify.com/album/2k9pDoe6U8uqdKcDdciZJq?si=l7NLTnfbQ5eSy7QwUN3JBg\">Spotify</a></li></ul><p><img src=\"/img/2024/impsuffering.jpg\" alt=\"Pestilent Hex - Sorceries of Sanguine &amp; Shadow\" /></p><p>This has quickly cemented itself as one of favorite black metal albums of the year. This album is nothing but pure FIRE—no filler, just full-on KILLER from start to finish.</p><hr /><h3 id=\"4-amiensus---reclamation-part-i-and-part-ii\">4. Amiensus - Reclamation Part I and Part II</h3><ul> <li>Personal rating: 8/10</li> <li>Genre: Progressive Black Metal</li> <li>Listen: <a href=\"https://amiensus.bandcamp.com/album/reclamation-part-1\">Bandcamp</a></li></ul><p><img src=\"/img/2024/amrec1.jpg\" alt=\"Amiensus - Reclamation Part I\" /><img src=\"/img/2024/amrec2.jpg\" alt=\"Amiensus - Reclamation Part II\" /></p><p>One of my favorite release of the year comes from the same band with two albums, both released in the same year. Their music is harsh and suffocating, yet strangely beautiful, laced with haunting ambient moments. While Part I delved deep into introspective themes, Part II intensifies the journey, pulling you into a whirlwind of raw emotion and relentless force. The band’s ability to combine progressive elements together with black metal’s ferocity is very impressive, crafting an album that feels both intenseful and beautiful.</p><hr /><h3 id=\"5-aquilus---bellum-ii\">5. Aquilus - Bellum II</h3><ul> <li>Personal rating: 7/10</li> <li>Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal</li> <li>Listen: <a href=\"https://aquilus.bandcamp.com/album/bellum-ii\">Bandcamp</a> / <a href=\"https://open.spotify.com/album/2EHWybqcELs5r74ETACv1M?si=GKRllMZ7RhKiP-F1nzUMTA\">Spotify</a></li></ul><p><img src=\"/img/2024/bellum2.jpg\" alt=\"Aquilus - Bellum II\" /></p><p>As a huge listener of atmospheric black metal, there’s something incredibly captivating about how it slowly and beautifully seeps into your soul with every listen. Bellum II is a testament to how this genre can push boundaries while maintaining its haunting, emotive essence, making it an unforgettable experience.</p><hr />",

Ulcerate - Cutting the Throat of God Personal rating: 9/10 Release date: June 14th 2024 Genre: Dissonant Death Metal, Atmospheric Sludge Metal Listen: Bandcamp // SpotifyAt this point, Ulcerate has firmly cemented itself as one of the greatest dissonant atmospheric extreme metal bands ever. While they’re not usually known for crafting memorable individual songs, their previous album shifted gears by bringing in more coherent song structures and distinct themes without losing their signature dark, somber atmosphere and technical brilliance. This new album continues down that path, and to me, it doesn’t feel like repetition. Instead, it feels like they’ve refined and perfected the approach they introduced earlier. After listening to this album over 10 times, I can confidently say it stands as one of the greatest musical achievements I’ve ever experienced.2. Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere Personal rating: 9/10 Release date: October 4th 2024 Genre: Death Metal, Progressive Metal Listen: Bandcamp // SpotifyPink Floyd-ish death metal ? Yes, This album feels like a seamless blend of Pink Floyd, Nile, and maybe even a bit of Opeth. It doesn’t bring much new to the table in terms of innovation, but honestly, it’s such a solid combination that it doesn’t need to. I love how the album flows between mellow, progressive moments and sharp shifts back into classic old-school death metal. The opening track is incredible, and there are plenty of standout moments scattered throughout. The way they shift intensity throughout the album—kind of like a prog-death rollercoaster—is really well done and makes for an engaging listen.3. ABORTED - Vault of Horrors Personal rating: 8/10 Release date: March 15th 2024 Genre: Brutal Death Metal Listen: Bandcamp // SpotifyWith Aborted, you know exactly what you’re getting—unrelenting brutality and riffs flying in every direction. Over the past 15 years, they’ve been nothing short of consistent, getting heavier and more technical with every release. And this album? Yet another masterpiece, perfectly embodying what brutal death metal is all about 🖤.4. Atoll - Inhuman Implants Personal rating: 7.5/10 Release date: February 23rd 2024 Genre: Slam Death Metal Listen: Bandcamp // SpotifyUnderrated pick of this year. This is one hell of a stinky album! Goddamn, this went so hard and blew my brains! That bass hits like a freight train—reminds me of the newer Cryptopsy stuff. There’s definitely an old-school vibe to it that I can’t get enough of. Good shit, for real!!5. Cognizance - Phantazein Personal rating: 7/10 Release date: January 26th 2024 Genre: Technical Death Metal Listen: Bandcamp // SpotifyI stumbled upon these guys this year, thanks to a recommendation from some Twitter pals. I gave this album a listen, and man, it’s such a dope album from start to finish. The story they tell is solid, and the quality of both the content and execution is top-notch. This is a great example of what a technical death metal album should be—complex, precise, and absolutely brutal. After hearing this, I went and checked out a couple of their other albums in their discography, and it’s all great stuff.",

Being a sucker for DSBM (Depressive Suicidal Black Metal), this isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s a strong EP worth checking out if you’re into the genre. The production of this album is one aspect I enjoy. I like this one more because it’s cleaner than many other DSBM artists that use raw noises. If you enjoy late Nocturnal Depression and Dark Funeral, you could enjoy this as well because of the guitar tuning.I particularly enjoy the guitar riffs in “Death Addiction,” “I Left This Life to Rot,” and “Als all Licht meinen Lieb verließ.” The drumming is ok, particularly the blast beat that opens “I Left This Life to Rot.” Even the traditional introduction is fine because the EP isn’t too long and doesn’t have any filler tracks. The vocals, which alternate between ominous screams and sorrowful murmurs, perfectly capture the mood of the record. The only song about which I’m unsure is “Todeslust.” The primary riff isn’t as appealing, the guitar sounds a little weird, and the vocals are limited to the left channel. However, I don’t think it devalues the record.“Wo Trauer niemals endet” isn’t flawless overall, and it may not be the ideal way to introduce DSBM. However, you’ll certainly find some tracks to appreciate if you’re already a fan of the genre. It’s a good album with catchy melodies and a depressing atmosphere. Fans of DSBM should check these out, especially if they’re looking for underappreciated bands with quality production.rating: 7/10",

"content_text": "Wayward Gods is an amazing first album that mixes the heavy guitar sounds of Stoner Rock with the dark, ominous feel of Doom Metal, along with themes about magic and the supernatural. It’s like going on a wild, spooky journey filled with powerful music. One of the best songs, “Man As God,” proves that Aiwass can make energetic music that appeals to fans of different styles. Another track, “Mythos,” has influences from Heavy Psychedelic music and takes you on a trippy ride. Wayward Gods is like the perfect soundtrack for two different adventures: either marching confidently into hell or being pulled into its fiery depths. The song “Titan” starts with a big, heavy guitar sound that goes on for a while before the drums and bass kick in. It’s a strong start to the album and sets the tone for what’s to come. The vocals have a mystical, far-off sound that fits well with the music.“From Chains” has some really impressive guitar parts, especially in the beginning solo. The guitar sounds eerie and hypnotic, and when the heavy riffs kick in, it feels like chaos has arrived. “Man As God” begins with the sound of birds and then dives into another eerie guitar riff. The vocals are pushed back a bit to let the guitars and drums take center stage. “Call of the Siren” starts off with a heavy bass line and wailing guitars that create a spooky atmosphere. In summary, Wayward Gods by Aiwass is a captivating musical journey that seamlessly blends Stoner Rock, Doom Metal, and occult themes into a compelling experience. From the energetic riffs of “Man As God” to the hypnotic allure of “Call of the Siren,” each track offers a unique sonic landscape that keeps listeners engaged.
